NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A month after 10 feet of water filled the beautiful Cascades Lobby of the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center, the company has announced they plan to reopen on Nov. 15. The storms of May 2 flooded the Gaylord Opryland’s properties, which prompted the company to evacuate almost 1,500 guests and close its 2,881-room hotel and 600,000 square feet of meeting space.
At the time of the reopening announcement on June 2, the Gaylord had relocated over 329,900 room nights from convention travelers for the next six months. Only 63,199 room nights had not yet been relocated, but Gaylord’s senior vice president and chief sales officer Kemp Gallineau said that the company is working diligently to find alternative locations for the remaining guests.
Before reopening its doors, Gaylord plans to replace the Cascades Lobby, Cascades Atrium, Cascades Restaurant, Sushi Bar and Lobby Bar. Redesigning plans were slated for Volare’s Restaurant and Jack Daniel’s Restaurant. The Gaylord will also fully restore the Ryman breakout rooms, laundry area and 117 guest rooms.
Contractors will additionally complete around $24 million in capital improvements that were initially scheduled for the coming months and years, but were moved up so all of the renovations could happen at the same time.
Gaylord’s Wildhorse Saloon and General Jackson Showboat reopened in early June, while the Grand Ole Opry House was scheduled to reopen Oct. 1. The Grand Ole Opry show is being presented in other locations until then.
Gaylord Opryland Resort accounts for 12 percent of rented hotel rooms in Nashville and around 20 percent of the tax revenue. It remains one of the largest non-gaming hotels in the continental United States.
